"In Service of Science — India's Pioneer Brain Bank"
Who We Are
NIMHANS Brain Bank is India's premier human brain bank and the nodal centre of the ICMR-funded Brain Bank Network India. Established under the Department of Neuropathology, NIMHANS, Bengaluru, we have been at the forefront of brain research in India since 1995.
Initiated jointly by DST, DBT, and ICMR, the Brain Bank was later taken over by NIMHANS with dedicated institutional support.
As the nodal centre, we coordinate standards, protocols, quality assurance, and the central database for all satellite centres in the network. Our collection represents the most comprehensive repository of human brain specimens in the country.
The NIMHANS Brain Museum — one of the finest in Asia — houses remarkable neuropathological specimens from over 50 years of collection, and serves as a valuable resource for education and public awareness about brain health.
