Tissue Request Form

Guidelines for requesting postmortem brain tissue, tissue fluids, and associated biological material from HBTR, NIMHANS.

Forms Required

Kindly fill Form A with appropriate information and sign the declaration regarding handling biological material. Form B, the Material Transfer Agreement, must also be completed.

Important Guidelines

  • Material will be provided depending on availability of precious human nervous tissue matching the requested specification.
  • The user must arrange collection and appropriate transport of material from the Brain Bank at their own cost.
  • All attempts will be made to provide fairly standardised, good material for research. HBTR is not responsible for deterioration after collection.
  • Material is provided free of cost and cannot be used for commercial purposes.
  • No part or form of the material can be sent outside the country.
  • Material may be shared with other neuroscientists in India only after intimation to HBTR, so the user directory and research output can be updated.
  • Material is exclusively for research purposes and not for clinical use.

Acknowledgement

Users should acknowledge the work undertaken in collecting, storing, processing, and making brain tissue available in publications and technical reports as: "Human Brain Tissue Repository for Neurobiological Studies, Dept. of Neuropathology, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore 560 029, India".

Declaration of Responsibility

  • The material provided may be hazardous to health.
  • Users are responsible for safety precautions including gloves, facial masks, suitable equipment, prompt disinfection, and biohazard disposal.
  • HBTR and NIMHANS do not accept responsibility for damage, injury, or death arising from use of the tissue.
  • Do not use material until a certificate is provided regarding negative status for viral infections such as HIV and HBsAg.
